7 cool LinkedIn apps to add value to your profile
LinkedIn offers 3rd-party applications to allow you to add value to your profile. Apps are great tools to use on your profile to share the depth of your expertise with your connections. Here is a sampling of some of the more popular apps LinkedIn members are using on their profiles.
Seven cool LinkedIn apps for your profile
Reading List by Amazon. Show your network the books you’re currently reading, what you plan to read, and what you’ve read. Write a book review, recommend books, and show your prospective clients or employers how you’re keeping current in your industry.
SlideShare. You can share PowerPoint or video presentations you’ve created with this app. You’ll need an actual SlideShare account, which you can get for free here. Once you upload your presentations to SlideShare, everyone in the network will be able to view your work. By adding the app to your LinkedIn profile, your connections will be able to see all of the presentations you’ve uploaded .
Box.net Files. Have you written a white paper or an e-book? This is a great app to share your knowledge and expertise with your network. You’ll need a Box.net account before you can add this to your profile. Your connections will also be able to download any document displayed on your profile.
LinkedIn Events. If you like attending seminars, meetups, or just face-to-face networking, this is a must-have app. Adding this app allows you to see all the events going on in your network, as well as create your own events. Your connections will see what events you are interested in, attending, or hosting.
Blog Link. Do you have a blog? Blog Link connects your blog to your profile by displaying your most recent posts. If you have a YouTube channel, Blog Link also displays your most recent uploads.
Polls. You can perform your own market research by creating brief surveys on LInkedIn. Find out what your audience thinks about various topics or ask their opinions on current issues. LinkedIn also lets you share your poll on Facebook and Twitter; or embed it on your website or blog.
Creative Portfolio Display. Show prospective employers or clients a portfolio of your creative projects, including design work, multimedia, writing samples, and more. Sign up for a Behance account, upload your projects and other digital samples, and let the world see your creative work. Sync it with your LinkedIn profile and show off your portfolio to your connections. You can also share it with your friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter.
These are just a few of the 18 apps LinkedIn offers to its members. Although you can control their visibility on your public profile, apps will show people what you’ve accomplished; rather than what you say you’ve accomplished.
What LinkedIn apps other than the ones I’ve mentioned have you found to be of value to your profile?
